My medical bills are going to collections and I am really getting frustrated, what can I do?

Hospitals previously held emergency room bills until the car accident claim was resolved before requiring payment. However, many hospitals are now refusing to hold bills and want to put the patient on a payment plan even before the patient has been compensated by the insurance company. The reason is because the auto accident process is long and can take six to eight months to settle. It is unfortunate that this has happened because it affects the patient’s credit with unpaid bills going to collections. One option for dealing with these situations is to call the medical providers and give a status of your claim so they are aware of its progress. A few of them may be willing to hold the bills. Very few, but it is worth asking. Another option is having PIP make payments on your medical bills.
