What is Whiplash?

This is a fairly common injury that occurs to a person’s neck following a sudden acceleration-deceleration force that causes unrestrained, rapid forward and backward movement of the head and neck. They are fairly commonly in car accidents. The term whiplash describes damage to both the bone structures and soft tissues and is typically not a life threatening injury but it can lead to a prolonged period of partial disability. You should see a doctor whenever you are in a motor vehicle accident and you experience any of the symptoms below.

Symptoms of Whiplash:
• neck pain/stiffness
• headache
• shoulder pain/stiffness
• dizziness
• fatigue
• jaw pain
• arm pain
• arm weakness
• visual disturbances
• ringing in the ears
• back pain
• sleep disturbances
