Kirkjufell Mountain, Iceland.

Hi guys! On page three of my newsletter I started featuring my favorite things, places and life experiences. Here is the first feature:

Go to Iceland
I was sitting on the metro on my way to court in DC when I noticed one of the ads displayed on the platform. The ad said “Direct flights from BWI to Iceland” and had the most exotic looking pictures. I asked myself, “Where is Iceland?” I couldn’t point it out on a map but I was tired and needed a vacation so I felt, why not! Fast forward a year later, I finally decided to check out flights to Iceland and was shocked that it was only $200 round trip for a six-hour flight. Yes, I was going to visit! Even if the trip is terrible, it was a cheap flight to see a new country.

My high-school friend and I visited in September 2018 for an extended weekend, and we both fell in love with the country. It turned out to be expensive on the island, but it was worth it. If you love the outdoors, hiking, and gorgeous scenery, then Iceland is for you! It was 54 degrees fahrenheit in September but with the paradise of waterfalls, hot springs, geysers, mountains, lava tunnels, and excellent food of Southern Iceland, the temperature was a non issue.

The country is unspoiled beauty and nature at its finest with a population of only 337,780 in 2018. We have more than double that number in Prince George’s County, Maryland alone! The roads were mostly empty as we drove around the countryside. Can you imagine?! No traffic! It was quiet and mentally relaxing. Most people speak English, so it is easy to communicate with everyone. We didn’t have to change any money as we used our debit cards for everything. Oh, and there is no crime. Like, really! I went to buy gas, which was crazy expensive by the way, and I couldn’t find where to pay before I pumped the gas. I went to find the attendant inside who informed me you pump first and come in to pay later. I smiled at the thought of this, “Yep, this wouldn’t work in the States.” I plan to visit again sometime in the future because it turned out to be the most calming trip. If you’ve never been to Iceland, I highly recommend it!
