The day I had my first child, 10 years ago in Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, their maternity rooms were full and they had no space for me and my new baby. They moved me to Pediatrics where we were surrounded by children of all ages suffering from various ailments. Initially, I thought, Okay, this floor is NOT where I want to be but I couldn’t help but notice how many children were on the floor. I remember seeing a young boy in a wheelchair with rods all over his legs. He cheerfully said to me, “Hi!” and I considered how heartbreaking it must be to see your child sick and feel helpless as a parent. Five years later, my second child was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. where, this time, it wasn’t just a floor of children with sickness but an entire hospital! Children’s Hospital’s ambience was beautiful; imagine a mix between a wonderful hotel and playground. The entire space was decorated to cheer up the children from stars on the ceiling to the a giant hot air balloon in the entryway! Still, it didn’t change the fact that there were so many children were battling disease and injury.
This experience is why I am asking you to join me in including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital as one of the charities you give to annually. St. Jude is dedicated to healing children diagnosed with cancer. They understand that the parents of these children are often overwhelmed, and paying enormous medical bills is the last thing they want to think about. It is devastating to hear your child is seriously ill. I can only imagine how scary and helpless these parents must feel. St Jude doesn’t charge a single penny to the families that come through their doors, so the parents can focus on the healing of their child. All medical bills at St. Jude’s are paid by private donations from people like you and I. In addition to treatment, St Jude is at the forefront of cancer research and constantly working towards finding a cure.
Please join me in helping families during this difficult season in their lives by logging on to www.stjude.org and donating to save a child’s life.
