Driving without a License

In this case, without a license means you have never applied for one. Common reasons why people drive without a license are:

I had to go to work (this is not an emergency by the way)
Someone needed to go to the hospital
I don’t have one

The reason for breaking this law might even seem justified but it will not exempt you from the penalties. An undocumented immigrant can apply for a driver’s license in MD, a limited purpose license in DC, but cannot apply in VA.

The penalties for breaking this law for first time offenders are:
MD – Up to 60 days in jail and/or $500 and/or 5 points
DC – Up to 90 days in jail and/or $300
VA – Up to 60 days in jail and/or $1000
